Horticulture Specialist

 This position is located in Bozeman, MT. This is NOT a remote position.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Horticultural Specialist who will also serve as a Garden Service Team Lead. In this multifaceted role, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the care of gardens and landscapes, leading a team of horticultural professionals, and providing expert guidance to clients. Experience in designing, building, and maintaining annual flower baskets is the primary responsibility in this role. It also requires ensuring exceptional plant health, managing landscaping projects, and leading the team to achieve high-quality service and design standards.

Key Responsibilites

Annual Flower Basket Design:

  • Design and create beautiful, custom annual flower baskets and container plantings, incorporating a variety of plant species to create vibrant and cohesive displays.

  • Plan and execute seasonal floral designs, considering color theory, plant textures, and blooming cycles.

  • Collaborate with clients to select the appropriate flowers and design styles for their spaces, offering personalized guidance and recommendations.

  • Maintain the health and longevity of flower baskets through proper care, watering, and maintenance techniques.

  • If interested, you may assist in incorporating annual flower baskets into larger garden design projects.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Horticultural Expertise & Plant Care:

  • Oversee the care of a wide variety of plants, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, ensuring their optimal health and growth.

  • Develop and implement seasonal care plans for each plant type, including appropriate watering schedules, soil preparation, fertilization, and pruning techniques.

  • Diagnose and treat plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, applying eco-friendly methods and treatments.

  • Conduct regular plant health checks to proactively address issues before they escalate, including adjusting care routines as needed.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as mulching, deadheading, pruning, and dividing perennials.

Garden Design & Maintenance Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of horticultural professionals in the upkeep of residential and commercial landscapes.

  • Supervise and coordinate garden care schedules, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and to the highest standards.

  • Work with clients to plan and execute garden and landscape designs, offering expert advice on plant selection, garden layout, and seasonal planting.

  • Ensure the gardens under your care are visually appealing, sustainable, and healthy throughout the year.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Act as the Garden Service Team Lead, overseeing a group of horticultural staff, guiding their activities, and ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and professionally.

  • Provide hands-on training to new team members, mentoring them on best horticultural practices, plant care, and customer service.

  • Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring that the team works together effectively while maintaining high morale.

  • Conduct regular team meetings, providing feedback and ensuring clear communication regarding client expectations, project timelines, and safety protocols.

Client Relations & Consultation:

·       Use Aspire software for efficient landscape management, scheduling, and project tracking.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients by addressing their horticultural needs and offering advice on maintaining their landscape.

  • Lead client consultations, providing expert guidance on garden design, plant health, seasonal changes, and landscape improvements.

  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction through high-quality work and clear communication.

  • Manage expectations by providing accurate estimates of project timelines, scope, and costs.

Inventory & Resource Management:

  • Oversee the ordering and management of plants, materials, and supplies, ensuring that the team has all necessary resources to perform tasks efficiently.

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, ensuring the availability of plants, tools, and supplies.

  • Work with suppliers to ensure the highest quality of materials is sourced, while also managing costs effectively.

Sustainability & Best Practices:

  • Encourage the use of sustainable gardening practices, such as organic soil amendments, water-efficient irrigation, and environmentally friendly pest control methods.

  • Recommend and implement solutions to enhance the sustainability of gardens, such as composting, mulching, and native plantings.

  • Stay updated on the latest trends in horticulture and sustainability to ensure innovative practices are adopted within the team.

Driver’s License

  • Must be 21 years or older and have a valid U.S. Driver’s License that is not currently suspended or revoked (driving record must meet the insurance carrier’s policy requirements and Highridge Landscapes Inc. driving standards).

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
